This is by far the best story so far this month in the "you could not make it up" category  Full story in the Telegraph.  First ge gets fined then they get it wrong he sues them and wins Baliffs go into council they pay up.

Mr Noon then pursued his case for damages and when the council failed to appear at a county court hearing, he was given judgment by default and awarded £5,000 for each ticket, making a total of £20,000.

Officials at Newham Council were given a chance to challenge the award at the High Court, but again failed to show. Bailiffs were then dispatched to council offices in East Ham last November and began ripping out computers. It is car keys that thieves are targeting first.

Esure reports that 90 PER CENT of car thefts last year involved the use of the original keys!
 
Modern cars are now much more secure and much more difficult to steal by conventional means. According to esure’s figures, 81 per cent of all high value car theft occurred as a result of the thieves stealing car keys through burglaries.

Gordon Hannah, head of claims at esure car insurance, said:

On the other hand, as Lord Mendelson has suggested, it is the funding that needs to be looked at in order to make it possible and affordable for the public and small businesses to drive new cars and keep the production lines flowing.
