Driving Penalties or offences when overeas or on the contiment
|
Traffic Penalties and Fines when driving abroad Plans to introduce new powers to enforce traffic penalties incurred abroad in the home country of offenders whilst driving in member EU states are now in place. I have learned that as of March next year the DVLA will issue fines to UK motorists for speeding and illegally parking abroad when requested by the foreign authorities to do so. There was a belief that driving licence penalty points would also be issued as they would have been had the offence been carried out in the UK but it would seem that this has now been dropped. The downside is that unlike offences committed in the UK there will be no right of appeal. It was also expected that authorities would be able to exchange driver details but at this point in time the position is still unclear with no comment from the DVLA - watch this space! |
