Point swapping for speeding fines and other motoring offences
|
Point Swapping. Warnings have been issued by AA Business Services (AABS) to drivers who have been points swapping to avoid high insurance premiums or worse prosecution for speeding and possible loss of a licence. This practice is becoming more widespread with disturbing stories of employers putting pressure on employees to "carry the can" for their driving offences in exchange for a cash bonus or even just to keep their jobs. More common is the swapping between husband and wife or boyfriend to girlfriend explaining that the other was driving the car at the time of the offence when a speeding ticket arrives. However, some authorities now have cameras that can take a crystal clear picture from 2 miles away and if it is obvious that the driver is lying to avoid the prosecution he or she could end up in prison as a result of "perverting the course of justice". In addition the insurance companies take a dim view of these activities as those found consistantly speeding have their premium loaded so the driver may find that he is not insured if the insurance company finds out that the driver has been points swapping. |
