The DVLA was to launch an online licence checking service for employers to check that employees had a valid driving licence as part of their health and safety responsibilities.

Well it has now been announced that this is not going to happen in the foreseeable future following a meeting with the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association and the Association of Car Fleet Operators as the DVLA does not have the funds available to move the project forward.

So if you are an employer be extra diligent and make sure that when you inspect driving licences monthly (as you should do) make sure you are checking the originals and not photocopies.
