Ex Rental Cars - Are they a good buy ?
Should you bu an ex rental car.
Controversy surrounds this subject with many buyers feeling misled when they purchase a car described as one owner only to find on checking that it although this description is technically correct in fact it has many drivers after being used in the rental market.
Rental companies will often register their vehicles in another name that makes it difficult to know whether the vehicle was a rental car. Rental companies will often lease or purchase a fleet of vehicles at a price and have a contract to replace them at an agreed value after a period and a certain mileage. The value of these cars in the trade do not seem to be effected greatly by the fact they are ex rental rather than private ownership.
It is not the issue of whether an ex rental car is a good buy or not it may very well be an excellent purchase with manufacturers guarantees and dealer checks to ensure that the car is sound.
The problem exists simply because customers might feel misled. Ask the dealer "is this an ex rental car" ask to see the registration document.
If it is an ex rental and this bothers you then do not buy it. If the dealer assures you it is not an ex-rental get it in writing from him before you purchase.
You must be realistic how many private buyers replace their vehicle after 6/9 months? Most used vehicles in this category will be ex rental, ex driving school, ex demonstrators etc.
